The AH-64 Apache Solodisplay originates back to 2002 when on the Air Show of the KLu, also on Gilze-Rijen, the Apache was demonstrated to the public for the first time in a flying display. Since then the display has grown out to one of the most spectacular helicopter displays, with the flare droppins as highlights. The Royal Netherlands Air Force is the only Air Force that currently has a flying display with the AH-64. The only other displays given are by Boeing test pilots. For the 2005 season the display is flown by Major Wandert Brandsen and Captain Raymond Laporte.

The AH-64 entered service with the Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLU) in 1996 with leased US Army AH-64A models as a gap filler till the AH-64D's were being delivered between 1998 and 2002. The KLu operates 30 AH-64D's. From the 30 delivered, 8 are permanently stationed in the United States with the Dutch Apache Training Detachment AH-64D in Fort Hood, Texas. The remaining Apaches are operated with 301 Squadron on Gilze-Rijen Air Force Base.
