The Royal Netherlands Air force holds their open days every year in June. This year Volkel airbase was pointed to organize them. At the 18 th and 19 th of June were the show days, the day before all aircraft arrived, some pictures are of that day. In 2004 it was 25 years ago the F-16 made his introduction in the Netherlands to replace the F-104G Starfighter (and later on the NF-5). On the static show a Dutch F-16A was present painted in the first prototype F-16 colors. With a lot of speculations about exotic F-16’s to come to Volkel my expectations were high, a great disappointment was that only 3 Belgium and 2 Italian F-16’s showed up… while Greece had their F-16's TDY on Twente Air Base some 80 miles further! |

The static show: Nice for people who came for a day out, but for the spotters it was worthless. The sea harriers were the only welcome participants. At the 19 th early in the morning the sun was that good, great pictures were made of this static show, a healing wound. |

About the Air Show: As always our own F-16AM demo, the J-016 flown by Christian van Gestel was a highlight of the show, and only for Volkel a high loop with flares was taken into the program! Some lucky shots were made about the Patrouille de France, one of the 4 large demo teams this show, also the Red Arrows, the Frecce Tricolore and the Swiss PC-7 team were present. The RNLAF historical flight showed the history of the air force and the RNLAF gave an impressive Airpower demo. |

The conclusion is that the RNLAF open day’s 2004 where not very impressive, but worth it for the photo’s. A lot off work is to do for Gilze Rijen; they organize the open day’s next year. |
