Hot Blade 2013

Hot Blade 2013 was held from July 17th-31st of July at Ovar Air Base in Portugal near the city of Porto. This years Hot Blade exercise was the second edition organized by the European Defence Agency in cooperation with the Portuguese Air Force. Touchdown Aviation was present at Ovar Air Base and took the opportunity to photograph the participants.

On the 26th July 2013, Touchdown Aviation were invited to join the 352nd Special Operations Group at RAF Mildenhall to have a detailed look at there brand new airframes, the CV-22B Osprey and the MC-130J Commando II, as the Group begin a major expansion and modernisation programme.

Anatolian Eagle 2013-2 was held from 10th of June until 21st of June at Konya Air Base. Compared with Frisian Flag and NATO Tiger Meet it was the third large scale exercise in Europe this year. Touchdown Aviation got the great opportunity to visit Konya Air Base to see the Turkish Air Force and allied partners to operate together in the exercise.

Frisian Flag 2013 was held from April 15th - 26th at Leeuwarden Air Base and the nearby Dutch, German and Danish airspace over the North Sea. This years focus was on international cooperation and integration. Touchdown Aviation got the opportunity to see this multi national cooperation at Leeuwarden Air Base but also in the air during an E-3A AWACS mission and KDC-10 air to air tanker mission.

RAF Northolt Night Photoshoot XIV

RAF Northolt opened its gates again on the evening of 14th March 2013 for the 14th Charity Night Shoot. Now in its fourth year these events are aimed at raising funds for the restoration of the 11 Group Operations Room at RAF Northolt. This historic building played a significant role during the Battle of Britain. With over two hundred photographers attending, it was the most successful event held so far & will help greatly with the funding for the buildings.

On the 28th February 2013 Touchdown Aviation were given the great privilege to join the crew onboard "QUID 42" for an air-to-air refuelling sortie over the East coast of the UK. The KC-135 Stratotanker is a real workhorse of the US Air Force and is no stranger in the skies above Europe. RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk based in the UK is home to the 100th Air Refuelling Wing / 351st Air Refuelling Squadron.

Like every year, between 22 and 27 January the World Economic Forum (WEF) brought together a large number of heads of state, chief executive officers, political and religious leaders as well as the media. The World Economic Forum is a purely Swiss event, but since it is being held in the town of Davos, close to the Austrian border, the 25 mile (46km) Temporary Restricted Area applies to the Austrian airspace over Tyrol and Vorarlberg as well.
