The text "Audax cum Consilio" gives word in what spirit the squadron operates. The two crossed swords in the unit badge symbolize the aggressiveness and fighting power the squadron has. De lightning flash through the swords show the speed in witch the squadron strikes.

The 312 squadron, like most fighter units in the Royal Netherlands Air Force, has an air support and a ground support role according to the swing-role principe. This means that they can switch fast between both roles.
