From the 1st of Januari 2001, 306 squadron took over the trainingrole from 313 squadron based at Volkel.

The pilots arrive after their initial fighterpilot training in the United States back to the Netherlands after witch they be trained by 306 squadron on the European flyingrules. In the US they are allowed to fly much faster and lower then in Europe. The flying areas are also much bigger, making it much less crowded in the skies. In Europe the weather circumstances are also much less stable. back in the Netherlands the way of flying has to be altered because of that. The squadron also organises refresher courses for pilots that haven't flown a while, for example because of the were stationed at a staff function at the headquaters in the Hague.

While the role of the unit has changed from 2001, the unit badge and motto has remained the same: "zien is overwinnen" is a motto that also perfectly match with the new trainingrole.
