The 303 Search And Rescue (SAR) Squadron is the rescue unit of the Koninklijke Luchtmacht (Royal Netherlands Air Force).
The SAR is based on Leeuwarden Air Base and consists of 3 Agusta Bell 412 SP helicopters and a team of 25 persons. The roles of the 303 SAR Squadron:
- The main task is rescue of downed airmen from sea.
- Transport of patiënts from the Wadden isles(exlcuding Texel) to hospitals on the shore.
- Stand-by on Vlieland during exersises on the Vliehors range and life firing exersises above the Northsea.
- They also assist the Coast Guard and offer help with major floodings or disasters.
There is a close cooperation between the SAR and the various rescue organistations along the Dutch (Wadden) coast like the Coast Guard and the Royal Navy.
Exersises are being helt on a regular bases so that all the different rescue organisations know how to work together as a team.
