Battle of Britain Air Show
This year we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and what better location to honour those that perished during this epic conflict than Duxford airfield. RAF Duxford, along with the nearby satellite airfield at Fowlmere, played a pivotal role during the battle. Being part of 12 Group, the Duxford sector was responsible for the protection of airfields coming under attack in the adjacent 11 Group situated in South East England.
Sywell Air Show
The sun was shining and the air was filled with the gentle purr of piston aircraft engines of years gone by, at this, the most picturesque of airfields. This was the authorís first ever visit to Sywell and the first sight to greet me was the beautiful Art Deco styled Hotel. It was like entering an airfield in the 1930s.
The Spring Air Show, held on Sunday 16th May, was blessed with fair weather despite the forecast for rain; mother nature, however, had a hand to play with the proceedings of the day with fears about the ash cloud over parts of the United Kingdom from the erupting Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland.
