Detached at RAF Northolt for nine days of training were four Typhoon FGR.4's for Operation 'Olympic Guardian', which is a trial run to test security for the forthcoming Olympic Games. They were joined by Puma transport and Lynx helicopters that are trained to intercept unauthorized aircraft or enemies in the airspace. The exercise ended on the 10th May. It is the first time fighter jets have been stationed at the west London site since WWII. The Typhoon’s were from 11 Squadron and 3 Squadron From RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. The latter are celebrating there 100th Anniversary this year and to commemorate this they have painted the C/O’s Typhoon in this striking colour scheme. |
